Riding Lawn Mowers
Riding style lawn mowers typically have their engines located at the back and are quite light in construction. Most are reasonably powerful with output ranging from between 8 to 12 horsepower. Being so powerful necessitates a number of considerations for use. It is essential that the user manual be read prior to commencement of operation. Secondly, most accidents relating to the use of this type of vehicle, and there are surprisingly a large number, are due to excessive speed so consequently slow down and don’t be over-confident. Check the grounds for objects that may cause the vehicle difficulty especially smaller rocks, which if operating the mowing mechanism may hit the blade and become a flying projectile. Wear safety glasses as recommended. Mow inclines perpendicularly, that is, up and down the gradient rather than across it. While this may sound intuitive you would be surprised at the number of times people have rolled their vehicle because of this very mistake!! Of course, when turning or going up or down slopes your speed should be reduced to prevent imbalance. Finally, you should only use your mower when there is adequate lighting and you can see clear what is before and behind you.
