Antique Tractor Internet Service
The “Antique Tractor Internet Service” was the first internet site developed and dedicated specifically to and for antique tractor aficionados. Established back in 1993 this site has earnt itself a reputation as the online Mecca for lovers of old tractors, old parts and anything pre-loved metallic, i.e. “old metal” as they call it. The site even has an online auction site for the specific purpose of selling antique or old tractors. The purpose of the site was to establish a destination where people of similar interests and with the same desire to make and keep traditional long-standing friendships developed on their love of all things rural was possible. Having said this they aim to see that these newly developed relations are not restricted by the confines of the internet but are actualised into reality through mailing lists, meetings at shows and other such arrangements. The profile of their ‘typical’ member while not properly canvassed would no doubt be someone with rural sentiments and the desire for traditional values. These are the primary aims as expressed on their homepage, ‘an affirmation of the virtues and decency of rural America ’. They actively encourage all…. young and old, tractor owner or not to sign up for their free mailing list and appear for all intents to be non-discerning in there requirement for any level of tractor knowledge!!! In other words there is no screening or prerequisite for tractor knowledge to be apart of this organisation. Having developed as a non-for-profit organisation for the niche of tractor restorers, admirers, users and others to liaise with each other freely, the Antique Tractor Internet Service now also offers internet and network services and industry support to those trying to market their business within the field. |
